The City of Miami Police Department is entering a new chapter with the appointment of Edwin Lopez as Chief of Police.

Chief Lopez brings decades of law-enforcement experience and a strong record of public service to the role. His leadership comes at an important moment for the department, as the City continues working to strengthen public safety, modernize operations, and deepen trust between officers and the communities they serve.

As Chief, Lopez will oversee one of the largest municipal police departments in Florida and help guide its priorities, culture, and response to the changing needs of Miami’s neighborhoods. His appointment also creates an opportunity for stronger coordination between department leadership, neighborhood commanders, residents, and community organizations.

BNA looks forward to working with Chief Lopez and supporting a continued focus on responsive, visible, and community-centered policing throughout Edgewater and the City of Miami.

Here in Edgewater, BNA is also pleased to welcome Commander Conrad Chin-Quee as our new Neighborhood Commander.

Commander Chin-Quee is a seasoned law-enforcement executive with nearly 30 years of public-safety service. He holds a Doctor of Educational Leadership and Management, a Master of Science in Business Management, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminology.

This is also a return to familiar territory. Commander Chin-Quee previously served as Edgewater’s Neighborhood Commander before leading the Upper East Side Neighborhood for nearly two years. Throughout his command assignments, he has implemented intelligence-led policing strategies, crime-reduction initiatives, and community partnerships focused on improving safety and quality of life.

Most recently, he led the Miami Police Department’s Strategic Planning and Performance Unit, where he helped oversee department-wide planning, accreditation, annual reporting, and innovation initiatives. BNA looks forward to renewing its partnership with Commander Chin-Quee and working closely with him on the public-safety concerns most important to Edgewater.

As we welcome new leadership, we must also say farewell—for now—to our outstanding Neighborhood Commander, Commander Delgado.

Over the past several years, Commander Delgado has been a true example of civic service and community-centered leadership. Under his command, crime declined in our neighborhood, communication with residents and property managers grew stronger, and police engagement throughout Edgewater reached an exceptional level.

Commander Delgado was consistently present, accessible, and willing to listen. He worked closely with BNA, condominium leaders, residents, businesses, and community partners to address concerns, share information, and strengthen trust between the neighborhood and the officers who serve it.
