City Elections: What’s Next for Miami
This election cycle was a major moment for our city — and the BNA was proud to elevate the conversation. We hosted an outstanding Mayoral Debate at the Adrienne Arsht Center, presented by Griffin Catalyst and co-moderated by the Miami Herald and NBC 6. Candidates Emilio Gonzalez, Ken Russell, Xavier Suarez, and Eileen Higgins shared their platforms before a packed audience, and you can re-watch the full debate on our YouTube channel.
Because no candidate surpassed the 50% threshold, Miami is heading into a runoff election on December 9th between Eileen Higgins and Emilio Gonzalez.
Your vote will directly shape the future of Miami — please make it count.
This is also not the moment to sit back or become comfortable. Real change only happens when communities show up. If elected officials do not consistently see the strength, engagement, and turnout of our neighborhood, they will continue to ignore our requests and delay the improvements we need. Voting is our most powerful tool to ensure Edgewater’s voice is respected, valued, and impossible to overlook.

Referendum Results
Edgewater voters showed up, and the results reflected the positions we advocated for:
• Referendum 1 – PASSED (We supported YES)
Creates a citizen-led Charter Review Commission once every ten years — a win for transparency and good governance.
• Referendum 2 – FAILED (We supported NO)
Protects the integrity of the competitive bidding process for city-owned property.
• Referendum 3 – PASSED (We supported YES)
Establishes an independent Citizens’ Redistricting Committee — a safeguard against gerrymandering and political manipulation.
• Referendum 4 – PASSED (We supported YES)
Imposes lifetime two-term limits for Mayor and City Commissioners, ensuring fresh leadership and preventing political entrenchment.
All four outcomes aligned with the BNA’s recommendations — a major step toward accountability, fairness, and a stronger Miami.

But none of this means the work is done. Your vote, your voice, and your presence remain the driving force behind the progress we are fighting for.
