2025 Year in Review: Building a Stronger, Safer Edgewater

We are often asked: “What does the BNA actually do?”

While much of our work happens in meeting rooms and through legislative advocacy, the results are felt every time you walk through Margaret Pace Park or drive down Biscayne Boulevard. As 2025 ends, we want to share the tangible impact your association has made this year.

Driven by a dedicated group of volunteers and supported by 23-member condominium associations & 27 commercial members and 4 institutional members, the BNA is the primary voice for Edgewater’s future.

Public Safety & First Responder Engagement

We continue to strengthen our relationships with our local Law Enforcement and Firefighters and attended several forums hosted by the Miami PD. In December, we hosted a Coffee Firefighters and Cops at Maman Edgewater, bringing residents face-to-face with the police and fire departments. Beyond events, the BNA serves as a permanent watchdog:

Advocacy: We are actively monitoring police staffing levels and leadership transitions under the new mayoral administration to ensure Edgewater remains a priority.

Oversight: We maintain constant communication with City departments to ensure safety resources scale alongside our neighborhood’s rapid growth.

 Traffic Mitigation & Pedestrian Safety

Traffic remains a top priority. Earlier this year, we conducted a Traffic Survey to gather community feedback and presented the findings to FDOT. Through this partnership, we are now receiving quarterly Traffic Improvement Updates to share with Edgewater residents, and have secured infrastructure improvements that make our streets more predictable:

Exit 2B Improvements: We successfully advocated lane restrictors at the I-195 off-ramp to prevent unsafe merging. We are currently pushing for an extension of these markers to further protect drivers.

Crosswalk Expansion: In response to our advocacy, the City has initiated traffic studies along North Bayshore Drive to implement new crosswalks and enhance pedestrian safety.

 Condo Legislation & Board Support

Navigating Florida’s evolving condo laws is a massive undertaking for any board. The BNA provides the expertise you need:

Legal Guidance: We’ve spent the year tracking HB 913, helping boards understand new reserve requirements and inspection mandates.

Expert Resources: We recently sat down with David Haber of Haber Law for an exclusive interview on these changes. Look for the full video on our YouTube channel this January.

Community Forums: We hosted several forums this year to help keep Property Managers and the community informed, such as the Insurance and the Hurricane Preparedness Forums.

Save the Date: Join us January 15 at the Miami Woman’s Club for our 2026 Legislative Meeting.

 The Baywalk & Waterfront Advocacy

We are closer than ever to a continuous waterfront. This year, the BNA helped secure critical funding for missing Baywalk segments through coordination with City, County, and State officials, including F.I.N.D.

Status: Environmental and marine studies are currently underway.

Timeline: We are targeting a construction start date in the second half of 2026, ensuring our local ecosystem remains protected during the process.

Parks, Cleanliness, and Quality of Life

Margaret Pace Park is the heart of our community. Through our partnership with Park Manager Melba Leiman, we’ve secured:

Immediate Upkeep: Noticeable improvements to bathroom cleanliness, grass, and sidewalk maintenance.

Future Planning: We are currently advocating for additional Park Rangers with the authority to enforce “leash laws” and other quality-of-life ordinances.

Community Activation: We helped the Edgewater Farmers Market secure the permits necessary to bring local commerce to the park every Sunday.

Own Your Block Clean Ups: We hosted 4 Community Clean Ups throughout Edgewater in 2025, with Margaret Pace Park being the largest hub. Together, we collected over 700 pounds of trash.

 Civic Engagement & Transparency

The BNA believes in an informed electorate. This year, we hosted a high-profile City of Miami Mayoral Debate, televised on Telemundo and NBC 6 and moderated by the Miami Herald. We also helped facilitate many mayoral candidates’ town halls throughout our member buildings. By bringing the candidates to our neighborhood, we ensured Edgewater’s concerns were heard citywide.

Events That Bring the Community Together

We love to share special moments and traditions with our community and host events that bring us closer together. This year we hosted:

Summer Kickoff

• Halloween Trick or Treat in partnership with the Miami PD

• Tree lighting ceremony with a special visit from Santa

In addition to these efforts, the BNA remained active throughout the year by hosting and participating in many other community-focused meetings and events including, a Margaret Pace Park Master Plan community meeting, a February forum at the Adrienne Arsht Center with county, city and state officials, an Edgewater pedestrian safety ride-along with the police department, and the Partnering for Progress workshop. Finally, we also attended several Commission meetings at the Miami City Hall and monitored the City of Miami budget meetings — continuing our commitment to advocacy, education, and community connection year-round.

New for 2026: The BNA YouTube Channel

We’ve launched a new digital platform to empower you. From interviews with structural engineers to insights from insurance experts, our YouTube channel is your go-to resource for the professional knowledge required to run a modern community. In 2026 we will continue to leverage the power of our Instagram and further expand our audience on LinkedIn with education and valuable professional information for the community.

The Bottom Line: The BNA is a volunteer-led, non-profit engine for change. We don’t do this for politics; we do it because we live here. As Edgewater grows, our collective voice becomes even more vital.

Thank you for your trust and your continued support.
